Inspiring piece... so much good stuff in the old ways.

These are great suggestions. Yesterday day my husband and I were at our family cabin (so excited we can say that, as we’ve never had a cabin before!) which was built in the 50’s by my Uncle. It needs tons of work which we are treating as labours of love. We discovered my uncle’s record and cassette tape collection yesterday! We are so excited to use the turn table and dwell in that old school vibe while taking in the beauty of this rustic cabin. So many things there have us feel we’ve stepped back in time, and stepped into more meaning, and meaningFUL time.

The line about romanticizing “slow living” while still reaching for the phone the second there’s a gap is the real thesis here we didn’t get less bored, we just got better at performing not being bored.

I am borrowing that adventure day idea from you Karun, I need to see places and waiting for a partner to come along ain't happening. Maybe I'll get to meet someone along the way. See, feeling alive already, I got things to look forward to. Thanks dude

You're welcome... Go have some adventures.

The one thing I knew you would completely leave out, and probably I'll get blacklisted for saying this, is: worth trying when you're bored: SEX. I don't mean "simulated" sex (porn, autoerotic) but having one or more consenting adults to make love too. If we had a friend or two intelligent enough to realize sex is natural, as natural as sleep and eating-- but missing-- maybe incorporating sex into our lives would eliminate the "boredom" even while doing boring things.

I'd agree, and why would you get blacklisted. I respect honest perspectives. And I like it. It's true. It's relaxing for sure.

I do most of these except scheduling an adventure day…love this!… and taking myself on a regular coffee date and journaling while there. That’s a good idea. Journaling does not come easy to me. Meeting new people along the way would be an added bonus.

More adventures to you...

I love these suggestions and I will definitely keep them in mind next time I'm bored.

p.s. if you want to dive deeper into the watch rabbit hole, I would recommend reading is Hands of Time by Rebecca Struthers. It gives a history of the watch from the point of view of a watchmaker. Really interesting read!

I can relate to these ideas 💡

Good article. I always feel there’s something I SHOULD be doing besides just sitting and enjoying my morning coffee. One of the things I’ve done years ago when I was merely struggling to survive to support myself and my children on a single parent income was to borrow everything from our local library. Valuable life lessons one learns when money is tight. Mahalo Karun!
