Many years ago I once asked my older brother how he managed to seem so confident in everything he did. He told me that he never felt so confident but that when you grow up you realize that “everybody is faking it”. Took me a bit to realize what he meant, but when it clicked I found myself far more able to carry a conversation.

When it finally hits that even the most suave person around has exactly the same doubts as you the fear of embarrassment sort of melts away. After all if everyone’s winging it they’re as likely to screw up as you are, right?

Very true. And people are not going to judge you, it's human to make mistakes.

I think that people do care, just not in the way that we think. We think they will judge us and be critical of our opinions. We think they will challenge us when we voice our thoughts. I believe the truth is that people will value our ideas and be grateful to hear what we have to say. When I feel hesitant about speaking, I remind myself that my thoughts are a gift to be given to others.
